Squarespace to Webflow Migration

How we make money: Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up or buy, SwitchMyApps may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Partners don't pay for placement in our guides or approve what we write, and we cover the limits and downsides of every tool, including the ones we earn from. Prices and features change, so check the vendor's site before you decide. Every price on this page lists the date we last verified it.

Is Webflow worth it for you?

Webflow gives designers pixel-level control, a real CMS, and code components. Squarespace is faster for non-designers and bundles commerce cheaply. If you aren't hitting Squarespace's design limits, the switch may not be worth the rebuild.

Pros and cons

Webflow pros: full design control, a strong CMS, 301 redirects, schema support, code export on paid Workspace plans (source: https://webflow.com/pricing, verified 2026-10-14). Webflow cons: a steeper learning curve; Site and Workspace billing are separate; you can't import a site or code into Webflow, so the design must be rebuilt (Webflow FAQ, source: https://webflow.com/pricing, verified 2026-10-14); CMS content can't be exported with code export.

What can and can't be exported from Squarespace

Squarespace exports a WordPress-format XML file. It includes layout pages, one blog (posts and up to 1,000 comments per post), text and image blocks, and gallery pages. It excludes product and store pages, additional blogs, video/audio blocks, drafts, style settings and custom CSS (source: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206566687-Export-your-site-content, verified 2026-10-14).

Step 1: Content inventory

List every URL, image, and form. Note your highest-traffic pages.

Step 2: Move the blog into the Webflow CMS

Convert the XML to CSV (a spreadsheet or converter tool), then import it into a CMS Collection. Webflow caps CSV uploads at 4 MB, and how many items you can import depends on your site plan (source: https://help.webflow.com/hc/en-us/articles/33961290794771-How-do-I-import-content-into-the-Webflow-CMS, verified 2026-10-14). Re-upload images or point them at hosted URLs.

Step 3: Rebuild the design

Start your Webflow site. Begin from a template or build from scratch. The free Starter plan lets you build before paying, and publishing to a custom domain requires a paid Site plan (source: https://webflow.com/pricing, verified 2026-10-14).

Step 4: 301 redirects

Available on paid Site plans. Map Squarespace /blog/post-slug paths to your Webflow collection URLs (source: https://webflow.com/pricing, verified 2026-10-14 for redirect availability).

Step 5: Connect your domain

Either keep the domain registered at Squarespace and point it via DNS settings → Custom Records (the domain must use Squarespace nameservers, and changes take 24–48 hours) (source: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/215744668-Pointing-a-Squarespace-domain, verified 2026-10-14), or transfer it out. Then in Webflow, go to Site settings → Publishing → Production → Add a custom domain (needs a Site plan) and set the A, CNAME and TXT records it shows (source: https://help.webflow.com/hc/en-us/articles/33961239562387-Manually-connect-a-custom-domain, verified 2026-10-14).

FAQ

Can I keep Squarespace commerce and move only the blog? Technically yes, on a subdomain, but it complicates SEO.
